Semester 1 Block 1 Foundation: Hematoxylin and Eosin colour pencil (Fable Castell)

Hematoxylin and Eosin colour pencil (Faber Castell)

Price: about RM 4.60/per pencil when I bought
Location: Sunway Faber Castell Kiosk

How do I buy: Run for 4 times before they actually have stock. I was annoyed and straightly emailed the company and they finally tried to get enough colour pencil for me and my classmates.

Books Recommended for MBBS Taylor's

We have 6 subjects in Foundation Block, which is also Semester 1.

So the 6 subjects, I would like to recommend some books for the subjects.

1. Anatomy:

- MOORE Clinically Orientated Anatomy (Better buy one)
- Chaurasia Volume 1, 2, 3 (Can be borrowed from library, but will be useless when going to clinical school, which is Sem 5 onwards)
- Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy (Better get one, helps in OSPE a lot)

2. Biochemistry:

- Mac Graw Hill Harper's Illustrated Biochemistry
----Lippincott;s is not that clear and a little bit messy, which has less information

3. Physiology

- Lange's Physiology
- Guyton and Hall Edition 13

Choose one.

4. Pathology
Get the Papa robin and use it until you graduate from MBBS 5 years later

5. Microbiology
-No books needed, if really want, just get the one published by Mac Graw Hill

6. Pharmacology
- Same with Microbiology, the lecturer's slides are so much and you can get everything from the slides

Stethoscope For MBBS Students, KL, Malaysia

Well it is always a problem to buy stethoscope.

But now, as I just bought it 2 days ago, I wold like to share some.

Search for "Apex Pharmacy Subang Jaya" on Google Maps.
Then, Call the office for asking about the details.

Brand name for mine is "Classic II", which is RM 238.5 including a penlight, when I bought it.

Then, If you are a Taylor's student, you can go there using a Grab car. It charge about RM7.
But you can also choose the BRT and LRT and go there, but I am not sure for that way.
Just call on your friends and share the RM7 is better.

The location is in an area of a lot of factories. There will be APEX HEALTHCARE at the front of the office.

Just go to the door that is located at the back side of it, go in, turn left.
A handsome man will be there to serve you.

Well it is actually a store of the company, but you can still buy there,

By the way,

remember to CALL THEM FIRST, CONFIRM THEY HAVE THE STOCK

then REMEMBER TO BRING ENOUGH MONEY, NO ATM THERE.

ASK THE GRAB DRIVER TO WAIT FOR U SO U CAN STRAIGHTLY GO BACK IF U R
USING GRAB CAR

I think that's all.
Wish U guys good luck
By the way, according to my experience, buying from senior will charge about RM300.
But if u want your name to be on the stethoscope, then just forget this post and buy from your senior LOL.

SCIENTIFIC WAY OF STUDYING

SCIENTIFIC WAY OF STUDYING

Survey! Question! Read! Recite! Review!
SQ3R will help you build a framework to understand your reading assignment.
Before you read, Survey the chapter:
  • the title, headings, and subheadings
  • captions under pictures, charts, graphs or maps
  • review questions or teacher-made study guides
  • introductory and concluding paragraphs
  • summary
Question while you are surveying:
  • Turn the title, headings, and/or subheadings into questions
  • Read questions at the end of the chapters or after each subheading
  • Ask yourself,
"What did my instructor say about this chapter or subject
    when it was assigned?"
  • Ask yourself,
"What do I already know about this subject?"
Note: If it is helpful to you, write out these questions for consideration.
    This variation is called SQW3R
When you begin to Read:
  • Look for answers to the questions you first raised
  • Answer questions at the beginning or end of chapters or study guides
  • Reread captions under pictures, graphs, etc.
  • Note all the underlined, italicized, bold printed words or phrases
  • Study graphic aids
  • Reduce your speed for difficult passages
  • Stop and reread parts which are not clear
  • Read only a section at a time and recite after each section
Recite after you've read a section:
  • Orally ask yourself questions about what you have just read, or summarize, in your own words, what you read
  • Take notes from the text but write the information in your own words
  • Underline or highlight important points you've just read
  • Reciting: The more senses you use the more likely you are to remember what you read Triple strength learning: Seeing, saying, hearing
  • Quadruple strength learning: Seeing , saying , hearing, writing!!!
Review: an ongoing process
Day One
  • After you have read and recited the entire chapter, write questions in the margins for those points
    you have highlighted or underlined.
  • If you took notes while reciting, write questions for the notes you have taken
in the left hand margins of your notebook.
Day Two
  • Page through the text and/or your notebook to re-acquaint yourself with the important points.
  • Cover the right hand column of your text/note-book and orally ask yourself the questions in the left hand margins.
  • Orally recite or write the answers from memory.
  • Develop mnemonic devices for material which need to be memorized.Make flash cards for those questions which give you difficulty.
Days Three, Four and Five
  • Alternate between your flash cards and notes and test yourself
(orally or in writing) on the questions you formulated.
  • Make additional flash cards if necessary.
Weekend
  • Using the text and notebook, make a Table of Contents - list all the topics and sub-topics you need to know from the chapter.
  • From the Table of Contents, make a Study Sheet/ Spatial Map.
  • Recite the information orally and in your own words as you put the Study Sheet/Map together.
  • As you have consolidated all the information you need for this chapter, periodically review the Sheet/Map so that at test time you will not have to cram.
